Islamabad: National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on Tuesday strongly criticized a statement made by an Islamabad High Court (IHC) judge regarding the state of parliament, calling it an attack on the institution.
During the assembly session, Speaker Sadiq referred to media reports stating that an IHC judge had remarked that the pillars of the state, including parliament, the executive, and the judiciary, had collapsed. Addressing the law minister, he asserted that no one had the right to make such statements against parliament, emphasizing that it was the prerogative of lawmakers to comment on its affairs.
The controversy arose during a hearing on a case filed by CSS 2024 candidates, who sought to delay the upcoming examination until the results of the previous one were announced. During the proceedings, Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani expressed deep concern about the country's situation, stating that living in Pakistan had become a continuous struggle. He further remarked that state institutions had weakened, and the responsibility to rebuild the nation now rested on the younger generation.
Meanwhile, Speaker Sadiq also took aim at PTI leaders and lawmakers, urging them to stop calling parliament "fake." He pointed out that while they accepted the legitimacy of the 2018 parliament, they now rejected the assemblies of 2013 and 2024. He deemed such claims unacceptable, arguing that they undermined the integrity of the legislative body.
Additionally, he criticized PTI members for rejoining parliament and accepting salaries despite boycotting proceedings, calling their actions contradictory.
